Program Summary:

This program aims to teach clinicians, whom are working with LGBTQ+ identified clients, the history and potential controversy in utilizing the diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria. Diagnostic criteria, as well as diagnostic and associated features, differential diagnoses, and comorbidities will be discussed to enhance participants competency and comfort in diagnosing clients. Participants will leave this training with a greater background understanding of the diagnosis and its practical, clinical use.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to recognize the history and development of the diagnosis Gender Dysphoria.

  • Participants will be able to list the diagnostic criteria, associated features, differential diagnoses, and comorbidities of Gender Dysphoria.

  • Participants will be able to describe the controversy related to the necessity of a Gender Dysphoria diagnosis.

  • Participants will be able to distinguish between Gender Dysphoria and Gender Identity/Non-Conformity.

  • Participants will be able to demonstrate competency in utilizing the diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria in clinical practice.

Introductory

This session is designed to introduce mental health clinicians (Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists and related professions) to the topic. Those with little to no experience or previous training in this area will benefit.

To receive course credit, participants must complete the following:

  • Attend the Entire Program

  • Complete the Course Evaluation

  • Once completed and evaluation is received, certificates are released within seven business days.

Monica has a minor in Queer Studies from Northern Arizona University. As a graduate assistant, during her time pursuing her master’s degree in counseling, she worked in the Inclusion and Multicultural Center on campus, specifically in their LGBTQIA Resources and Support office. During her time in the office, she facilitated the campus Safe Zone training, as well as scheduling and marketing for trainings. Since this time, she has developed her own training, which meets national Safe Zone standards, and has taught the training a handful of times over the past 3 years. She has also co-led multiple LGBT support groups at different counseling agencies.

Program Approvals

Ohio CSWMFT Approval 

This training is approved for counselor, social work, and marriage and family therapy continuing education.In addition, it is approved by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board for chemical dependency continuing education. Check CE Broker for detailed breakdown of CE types (provider number50-24074). 


ASWB ACE Approval 

Mindfully (ACEP provider #1862), is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 6/27/2023 – 6/27/2024. Social workers completing this course receive 1 clinical continuing education credits. 


NBCC ACEP Approval
