Program Summary:

Module 18 of the International Association for Wellness Counseling (IAWC) Certified Wellness Counselor’s (CWC) course is a discussion about the role of leadership and advocacy. Dr. Darcy Haag-Granello discusses this topic with participants, emphasizing the role we play as practitioners in shaping the broader industry or society. Practical tips are shared to help professionals consider and hopefully exercise their abilities as advocates.

This module consists of both a required video as well as mandatory readings- both necessary to receive the CE.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn how and understand the importance of social advocacy for counseling from a Wellness frame.

Audience & Skill Level

Introductory

This session is designed to introduce mental health clinicians (Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists and related professions) to the topic. Those with little to no experience or previous training in this area will benefit.

Course Outline & Agenda

  • Discuss the importance of advocacy as professional wellness counselors. 
  • Consider methods and means through which professionals can exercise their abilities as advocates. 


To receive course credit, participants must complete the following:

  • View the entire recording.

  • Complete the post-test with a passing grade of at least 80%

  • Complete the course evaluation

This training is approved for counselor, social work, and marriage and family therapy continuing education. In addition, it is approved by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board for chemical dependency continuing education.
