Program Summary:

Mental health providers (social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, etc.) who wish to use teletherapy are legally and ethically expected to have competence/training in the area. This training reviews legal and ethical guidelines that shape teletherapy, as well as best practices for maximizing effectiveness. Legal and ethical guidelines will be reviewed, as will recommendations for the use of technology, setting up an adequate teletherapy space, gathering informed consent and maintaining effective documentation and communication practices. Lastly, strategies to incorporate self-care (and minimize burnout) while maximizing effectiveness will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives:

  • Clinicians will be able to explain what trauma is and is not.

  • Clinicians will be able to recognize the mental and physical outcomes associated with childhood trauma.

  • Clinicians will be able to recall the theoretical framework of TF-CBT

  • Clinicians will be able to recognize the primary principles of TF-CBT

  • Clinicians will be able to apply TF-CBT strategies in their work.

Audience & Skill Level

Introductory

This course is designed for mental health service providers (social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, etc.) who seek to use teletherapy to serve their clients. No prior coursework or experience in this area is necessary to benefit from the material.

Course Outline & Agenda

    • 1:00-1:30 What is Trauma (definitions and explanations)
    • 1:30-2:00 Childhood Trauma's Impact both short and long term (what does ACES research reveal)
    • 2:00-2:15 What now? How do we address trauma?
    • 2:15-2:30 break
    • 2:30-4:15 TFCBT strategies
    • 4:15 Discussion, Evaluations, Q & A

To receive course credit, participants must complete the following:

  • Attend the Entire Program

  • Complete the Course Evaluation

  • Once completed and evaluation is received, certificates are released within seven business days.

Charity Chaney

Charity Chaney is a professional counselor in the state of Ohio and the lead therapist of Mindfully’s DBT team. Charity also leads DBT skills classes where she helps groups apply DBT principles and learn new skills.

Program Approvals

Ohio CSWMFT Approval 

This training is approved for counselor, social work, and marriage and family therapy continuing education.In addition, it is approved by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board for chemical dependency continuing education. Check CE Broker for detailed breakdown of CE types (provider number50-24074). 


ASWB ACE Approval 

Mindfully (ACEP provider #1862), is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 6/27/2024 – 6/27/2027. Social workers completing this course receive 3 clinical continuing education credits. 


NBCC ACEP Approval

Mindfully Academy has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7322. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Mindfully Academy is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
