Program Summary:

This 90-minute interactive session introduces participants to the principles and practices of Trauma Responsive Care (TRC), emphasizing how trauma affects the brain, behavior, and relationships—and how supportive systems can promote healing and resilience. Participants will examine the differences between trauma-informed and trauma-responsive approaches, explore the Triple Trauma Paradigm often seen in refugee and immigrant communities, and learn practical strategies for fostering safety, connection, and regulation in clients, students, and colleagues.

Drawing from neuroscience, the ACEs framework, and resilience-based interventions, this session will use group discussion, case examples, and reflection to deepen understanding and build capacity for trauma-responsive practice within behavioral health and community settings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define key concepts related to trauma, including types of trauma, the ACEs framework, and the Triple Trauma Paradigm.

  • Participants will be able to describe how trauma impacts brain development, emotional regulation, and behavioral responses in individuals and families.

  • Participants will be able to apply trauma-responsive strategies that promote safety, trust, and emotional regulation in daily professional interactions.

  • Participants will be able to develop a brief action plan for integrating trauma-responsive principles into their work or organization.
