Program Summary:

Signs of disordered eating trace back to 700 BC, and approximately 10% of adults in the U.S. will meet the criteria for an eating disorder in their lifetime. This program is designed to introduce providers to these concerns and equip providers with entry-level tools and techniques to assess and address disordered eating. Attendees will briefly learn about the history of disordered eating before focusing on fundamental assessment questions and tools that providers can use to better determine if their client meets the criteria for a meeting disorder. With the help of multiple vignettes and discussions, participants will also see different examples of treatment goals and interventions based on multiple different theoretical approaches. These discussions will equip outpatient level providers with what they can do to support their client, as well as better understand and manage identifying when a higher level of care may be necessary, and how to manage that referral process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define and assess an eating disorder.

  • Participants will be able to create a treatment plan centered around symptoms of an eating disorder.

  • Participants will be able to use concrete interventions to support clients with an eating disorder.
